    We are very excited about beginning a new year in 5th grade with such wonderful students!  We are dedicated to making this a productive and successful year for your child.  We will be communicating with you often about classroom plans, your child’s progress, school events and other activities as they arise.  It is important to join the 5th grade Remind group.  Please sign and return all forms that your child received on their first day of school as soon as possible.

    We are using Control Point as our dismissal process this year. All parent's MUST sign up.  If you do not receive an email and complete the sign up process on control point, make sure you write your current email address on the provided form at Meet theTeacher or call the school with an updated email.

    Our 5th grade rotation time is 2:30-3:20. Please schedule any appointments during this block of time in order to avoid missing classroom instruction.

    Our lunch and recess time is 11:30-12:10 pm.            

     

    Campus Rules:
    • Follow directions

    • Speak appropriately

    • No bullying, teasing, or put-downs

    • Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself

    Grading Policy:

    All daily grades will be 50% of the six-week average and major grades will be 50% of the six-week average.  Progress reports will be sent home each third week and report cards will be sent on our six week cycle.  Please sign and return progress reports/report cards to your child’s homeroom teacher as soon as possible.

     

    Re-teach and redo a graded event:

    A retest may occur or may be required if a student's score is below 70 and they performed poorly due to extenuating circumstances as determined by the teacher or administrator.  After retesting/correcting, the maximum score recorded shall be a 70 if the retest/ corrections satisfy the requirements set by the teacher.  This does not apply to daily work. 

    All students are expected to do their very best the first time a graded event is given. 


    Academic Dishonesty:

    A student found to have engaged in academic dishonesty shall be subject to grade penalties on assignments or tests. Students caught cheating will be given a second copy of the assignment and will receive a score of no more than 50.  Their parent will be contacted by the teacher. Repeated offenses will be referred to the office. 

     Make-Up Policy:

    A student will be responsible for obtaining and completing the makeup work in a satisfactory manner and within the time specified by the teacher.  Students will be given one day to make up work for each day the student is absent.  Students who do not make up the work within the time allotted will receive a zero in the grade book for the assignment.

     

    Homework:

    Homework will consist of: 

    •  Studying for tests or quizzes

    •  Reading, Science, and Social Studies Assignments

    •  Practicing math facts (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division)

    •  Math practice page for each week in the math binder

    •  Completing general projects

    Homework is given weekly with the expectation that it is completed and turned in on time. Homework is taken for a daily grade. 

    Communication:

    The fifth grade website is found on the Edna Elementary website under the “Teacher Webpages” link. More information of each individual subject can be found on the webpage. 

    Each student has a home communication folder that they should bring home each night. 

    There is a 5th grade events calendar that includes test and assignment due dates in the back of each student’s blue folder.
