The Edna ISD Board of Trustees held its regular meeting on February 16, 2026, with a strong focus on student outcomes, school safety, planning, and campus celebrations.

🎯 Focus on Student Success: Lone Star Governance
The Board continues its work with Lone Star Governance (LSG), a Texas Education Agency (TEA) research-based continuous improvement model. LSG helps align the board and superintendent around one primary goal: improving student outcomes. Through structured goal-setting, progress monitoring, and clear constraints, this work ensures every decision supports student achievement.

🛡 School Safety & Instructional Planning
The Board addressed a TEA intruder detection audit finding and reviewed the district’s corrective action plan to ensure campuses remain safe and secure.
Trustees also approved the 2026–2027 Certification of Instructional Materials Survey, which verifies that students have materials aligned to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). This certification allows Edna ISD access to the Instructional Materials Allotment (IMA)—state funding used to purchase textbooks, digital resources, and related technology.

📚 Campus Updates & Celebrations
Edna High School (EHS)
• Attendance: 96%
• Debate Teams: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place finishes; 1st and 2nd advancing to state
• Athletics: Marlee Holmes named Volleyball Academic All-State
• Community Service:
o Delivered 27 laundry baskets, providing 150 meal backpacks
o Partnering with Southbrooke for a Sweets Social
o Supporting Rotary’s Valentine’s Social fundraiser

Edna Junior High (EJH)
• Attendance: 94.95%
• UIL Academics: 2nd Place at Palacios Meet
• Teacher Recognition: Catherine Reed for outstanding work in Special Education and inclusion services
• Appreciation for paraprofessionals Laura Dawlearn, Alicia Bailey, Chelsea Longoria, and Cindy Bazan for their dedication to students

Edna Alternative (EAS)
• Attendance: 95%
• Teachers continuing strong instructional support
• STAAR tutoring underway

Edna Primary & Intermediate (EPS/EIS)
• Attendance: Primary – 94% | Intermediate – 90%
• Students from Pre-K through 5th grade were recognized across all grade levels for outstanding achievement and leadership

• 112 employees were recognized for perfect attendance
• Monthly “Cowboy Card” recipients honored for going above and beyond The recipients of the monthly Cowboy Card include: Kenneth Osore, Natalie Trevino, Justin Johnson, Emilio Hernandez, Aldric Edwards, Nicole Beard, April Wittenbert, Chasity Matula, Jaihzelle Arnold, Mary Jean Arnold, Martin Holguin, Zelda Hurt, Anna Hobbs, Sandy Bell, Jan Mascheck, Nicole Orozco, Dustin Nessel, Alicia Bailey, Sandra Aguilar, Anabel Mejia, & Jamie Dixon.
• Special recognition for twice-nominated staff members Melissa Lee, Kendra Boone

🔒 Executive/Closed Meeting
• Interim Superintendent Bill Boyd requested that administrator contracts be tabled until next month, and the Board accepted his recommendation. The Board also approved teaching contracts for two current EISD interns for the 2026–2027 school year.
